Citroen eC3: Occasionally, we base our opinions on a narrow viewpoint. I experienced something similar with the Citroen eC3. This automobile was a part of my everyday life for three months.
I never had any complaints about the eC3, whether I was driving to and from work, doing quick city drives with friends, or navigating tight spaces. Over time, I began to feel more confident that this car could drive a little farther and wasn’t just for the city.
“Why not take it to Mumbai and see for yourself?” came to me one day. Every other weekend, I had to travel to Mumbai for a family occasion. The cost of driving a gasoline or diesel vehicle was rising.
Confidence from the city to the highway
I was used to travelling early in the morning so that I would avoid traffic congestion. On that day, too, I left early in the morning, around 6 a.m. I had been charging the car overnight, and the charge was full, i.e., 100 percent. I was sure I would reach Mumbai by breakfast time, like any other day. Even the start was the same. The car was moving smoothly, the road was empty, and I was moving at a steady pace of 100 kilometres per hour.

But the real story started around the ghats. Glancing at the battery indicator, my heart sank a little. After covering just 60 kilometres, my battery was drained to 50 per cent. At this point, for the first time, I realised the big difference between city driving and highway driving. A car that was capable of driving all day in the city was now starting to show its limitations.
I understood the true meaning of range.
For urban use, the eC3’s range, as shown on the display,y is fairly accurate. However, running the air conditioner, climbing the ghats, and driving at a steady 100 kmph on the highway all clearly depleted the battery. The range was rapidly diminishing with each kilometre, and I started to question whether I would be able to get to Mumbai without charging.
It became evident at this point that I didn’t fully comprehend the eC3. Long-distance highway driving gets a little difficult, but this automobile is excellent for city driving. This is a fact to be aware of rather than a grievance.
Driving Comfort and Handling
During the journey, there was one thing I liked, i.e., the comfort while driving. I felt that the sitting position was comfortable, and it was an easy car to drive. Although there was a lack of power while overtaking on the highway, the car is not for going at a high speed, just for driving at a calm pace.
Charging Concerns and Reality
The major problem associated with driving on long routes is charging. This problem does not exist if you own a petrol car; the problem does exist if you own an electric car. This drive with the eC3 taught me that if you plan to drive on a highway for long distances, you should plan to charge your car.
Is the eC3 only for the city?

This 1500-kilometre experience has improved my ability to think clearly. A fantastic city vehicle is the Citroen eC3. For short vacations, city drives, and daily commutes, it’s a cost-effective and cosy choice. You must be aware of its limitations, though, if you intend to use it for frequent long highway travels.
