The latest sales figures reveal how competitive the Indian automotive market has become. Tata Motors successfully retained its second position, but only by a narrow margin over Mahindra. Meanwhile, brands such as Hyundai, Toyota, Kia, Honda, and Renault also recorded positive performances, reflecting growing customer confidence and strong demand across multiple segments.

Maruti Suzuki Continues Its Dominance

Maruti Suzuki once again emerged as the country’s highest-selling passenger vehicle manufacturer. The company recorded an impressive 1,90,337 units in June 2026, representing a massive 40 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The brand’s success was largely driven by strong demand for its SUV lineup and popular small cars. Models such as the Alto K10, Wagon R, and S-Presso continued attracting buyers, while the SUV portfolio delivered remarkable numbers. Maruti Suzuki also announced plans to showcase India’s first flex-fuel passenger vehicle and introduced price revisions across selected models.
Tata Motors Retains Second Position
Tata Motors secured the second position in the monthly sales rankings by selling 59,090 passenger vehicles during June 2026. The company achieved a healthy year-on-year growth of 42.2 percent, highlighting its growing popularity among Indian car buyers.
The company’s electric vehicle business played a major role in this performance. Tata crossed the milestone of 10,000 EV sales in a single month for the first time, while strong Vahan registrations further strengthened its position. Updated versions of the Tiago and Tiago EV also helped maintain momentum.
Mahindra Remains Close Behind Tata
Mahindra delivered another strong performance by recording sales of 58,021 units during the month. The company achieved a year-on-year growth of 10.7 percent and remained just 1,069 units behind Tata Motors.
Popular SUVs such as the Scorpio, Thar, XUV 3XO, and XUV 7XO continued driving demand for the brand. Although supply chain challenges affected some production volumes, Mahindra’s SUV-focused strategy continued to generate strong customer interest across the country.
Hyundai Maintains Fourth Position
Hyundai reported domestic sales of 47,837 units during June 2026. Despite a slight decline compared to the previous month, the company still recorded a respectable year-on-year growth of 9.1 percent.
The brand continued benefiting from strong demand for the Creta, Venue, and Exter SUVs. Hatchback models such as the Grand i10 Nios and i20 also contributed to overall sales performance, helping Hyundai maintain its position among India’s leading carmakers.
Toyota Continues Hybrid Success Story
Toyota sold 30,574 vehicles during the month and registered moderate year-on-year growth of 4.4 percent. The company continued strengthening its position in the Indian market through its focus on hybrid technology.
A major achievement for Toyota was crossing the milestone of 3,00,000 cumulative hybrid vehicle sales in India. Models such as the Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Glanza remained among the brand’s strongest performers.
Kia Achieves Record-Breaking Growth
Kia India delivered one of its strongest performances by selling 27,586 units during June 2026. The company recorded an impressive year-on-year growth of 23.6 percent, making it one of the fastest-growing brands in the market.
The Seltos and Sonet remained key contributors to the brand’s success. Newer offerings such as the Carens Clavis and Syros also attracted buyers and helped Kia achieve its highest-ever sales performance for the month.
Mixed Results for MG Motor and Skoda
MG Motor sold 6,048 units during June 2026. While the company experienced a slight decline compared to the previous year, it successfully maintained stable sales despite global supply chain challenges and rising costs.
Skoda, on the other hand, recorded 5,760 units and witnessed a decline in sales. The Kylaq continued serving as the company’s primary volume generator, while the updated Kodiaq added fresh excitement to its product lineup.
Honda Shows Strong Improvement
Honda reported domestic sales of 5,111 units and achieved a solid year-on-year growth of 29.4 percent. The company’s performance was supported by consistent demand for the Amaze and Elevate.
The recently updated Honda City also contributed to customer interest. Additionally, the company generated attention by showcasing the ZR-V as its premium SUV offering for the Indian market.
Renault and Nissan Deliver Impressive Growth
Renault recorded one of the strongest growth rates among all manufacturers. The company sold 4,113 units, representing an impressive 64 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Nissan delivered an even stronger growth performance with domestic sales of 2,948 units. The brand achieved a remarkable 117.7 percent year-on-year increase, largely driven by the Magnite and the newly introduced Gravite SUV.
Volkswagen and Citroen Face Different Outcomes
Volkswagen sold 2,619 units during June 2026 and experienced a slight decline compared to the previous year. The Virtus and Taigun remained its most important models, while premium SUVs continued serving niche buyers.
Citroen recorded sales of 525 units and achieved a strong year-on-year growth of 57.7 percent. Models such as the C3, Basalt, Aircross, and eC3 helped the company strengthen its presence in the Indian market.
