Tata Punch EV vs MG Comet EV: Electric cars are gradually emerging as a ubiquitous presence on Indian roads. Modern technology, fast charging, and long range are also features that buyers are seeking in addition to fuel efficiency now.

With the growing popularity of electric mobility, two brands are emerging that are competing against each other among the budget EV segment buyers: the Tata Punch EV and the MG Comet EV. Both cars have their own benefits, and they target rather different groups of drivers.

Tata Punch EV is more concerned with safety, range, and utility, whereas the MG Comet EV is more compact and low-priced. The emergence of Battery as a Service (BaaS) models has made the purchase of an electric car even more approachable, as it is now possible to pay individually to buy the battery as needed.

Owning an EV has now been made easier with Battery Rental

Both Tata and MG have launched Battery as a Service (BaaS) plans in order to make the electric vehicles more affordable. In this model, the buyers will have the opportunity to buy the car at a cheaper cost upfront after which they will be charged to use the battery.

Tata Punch EV vs MG Comet EV

Tata Punch EV is expected to pay approximately 2.60 per kilometer on the battery rental, whereas MG Comet EV would pay about 3.20 per kilometer on the battery rental. The Punch EV can be more cost-effective in the long-term as it is more expensive than other vehicles in the market that cover a greater distance.

The MG Comet EV might seem less expensive at the beginning with a price of approximately 5 lakh, yet the relatively higher rate of rental might add to the running expenses in case the car is driven a lot.

Cost on Technology and Convenience

The ability to charge is an important factor in determining the kind of electric car to use depending on your lifestyle. The Tata Punch EV also has a large 65kW DC fast charging, which can fill the battery to 10 percent to 80 percent in an approximate of 26 minutes. This is particularly useful when one has to travel extensively along highways or when they are on the move and need to charge their devices within a short time.

On the contrary, DC fast charging is not supported on the MG Comet EV. It is however smaller in size and can thus be charged in a few hours with a usual home AC charger. This system is appropriate to individuals who primarily commute in the city and charge their vehicles at night.

Comfort and Interior Features

The two vehicles have modern features, which are different in priorities, in the interior of the cabin. The MG Comet EV is a futuristic car with a small design. It is supplied with a 10.25-inch dual screen system which makes the car look very modern and high-tech.

Tata Punch EV is more practical and comfortable with the family of Indians. It will provide such features as an electric sunroof, ventilated seats, and a wireless smartphone charger, which will make it convenient when driving daily. The higher position and roomy interior of Punch EV also give it more comfort in traveling long distances.

Safety and Build Quality

One such area that Tata Punch EV is evidently strong in is safety. This car was rated 5 stars in the India NCAP crash test, and this is one of the safest electric cars in the country. It also has advanced safety systems which include 6 air bags, 360 degree camera and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The MG Comet EV has good braking ensured by the all-wheel disc brakes, but the car does not compete with the Punch EV on airbags and crash safety standards. The Punch EV is better to buyers who are more concerned with the safety of their families.

Comparison of Range and performance

The difference in the range of the two vehicles is quite significant as far as driving range is concerned. Tata Punch EV will be powered with a 40 kWh battery pack that has a range of approximately 468 km (ARAI certified) per charge. This renders it more appropriate in the urban application besides the extended road journeys.

Tata Punch EV vs MG Comet EV

The MG Comet EV has a range of about 230 km and generates about 42 PS of power. The Comet is not high speed oriented but is made to drive smoothly and efficiently in the city traffic. It is also compact in size thus parking and negotiating in the crowded cities becomes simpler.
