Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella: Finding a balance between emotion and reason is crucial, in my opinion, when purchasing a new electric vehicle. You need features and future-proofing, but you also need trust. This is the exact rationale behind the arrival of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella in India.
This is Toyota’s first electric SUV in India, and its design makes it evident that the business took a deliberate rather than a hasty approach. Although the Ebella is based on the Maruti e-Vitara, Toyota has unmistakably imprinted its own personality and dependability on it. Three versions are available: E1, E2, and E3.
Why do all the variants look almost identical from the outside?
First, let’s discuss its external appearance. Toyota has chosen a very clever strategy. The base model of Toyota Ebella, i.e., E1, does not differ from its top variant in terms of looks. It has LED headlights, LED daytime running lamps, ORVM covers with body colour, door handles with body colour, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED taillamps, and a shark fin antenna, just like its top variants.
This, therefore, implies that if you were planning on considering this top variant based only on aesthetics, perhaps you should change your mind. It should also be noted that Toyota has clearly shown that nobody should feel unsatisfied in terms of design. It will definitely be hard to differentiate between E1, E2, and E3 while driving, and this in itself is a smart idea!
The real difference becomes apparent once you step inside.
Let’s now discuss the cabin, where the true distinctions between the versions become apparent. Although the base E1 model has cloth seats, comfort is not sacrificed. There are armrests for the front and rear passengers, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. The greatest thing is that the base model comes with features like a 10.25-inch digital driver display, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and sliding and reclining rear seats. This indicates that Toyota hasn’t limited key comfort elements to a single model. The E2 version seems to be a model intended to fill a tiny void. The wireless phone charger is its most notable new feature.
Infotainment is strong even in the base variant
But from what we could tell at the show floor, all three variants of the Ebella feature a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. There are also steering controls and connected car tech.
In terms of what makes these two different, it is obvious that while the E1 and E2 have a 4-speaker sound system that is adequate to meet demands to a certain extent, music enthusiasts like ourselves will see that with E3, there is a 10-speaker JBL sound system.
Toyota hasn’t compromised on safety
Toyota has made the Ebella quite sturdy in terms of safety. Seven airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear disc brakes, electronic stability control, hill hold control, TPMS, and ISOFIX child seat mounts are all included in all three versions.
The E1 has front and rear parking sensors but no parking camera. A 360-degree camera is added to the E3, while a rearview camera is added to the E2. Furthermore, only the top-spec E3 version has advanced features like adaptive cruise control and Level-2 ADAS.
Which variant is right for you?
If you are looking for some specific advice, I’d tell you as follows: If you have a budget to spend on an electric SUV and want a feature-rich model from an electric vehicle provider, the E1 won’t disappoint you as an option. If you want to have some more features available for use, the E2 will inevitably meet your demands as an option for your electric vehicle choice.
If you want to experience every single feature available on an electric vehicle and features such as ventilated seats, JBL speakers, and ADAS become necessary to you, the choice will inevitably lie in the E3 model only! The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella offers an example of how electric cars are not just the future, but a necessity right now. Toyota has done well in that you feel the value for money in every category, which adds to its strengths.
