3 New Mid-Size SUVs: The Indian SUV market is on a steady rise, and the second half of 2026 is sure to be as thrilling as the first half. Tata Motors, Nissan, and Honda are all about to roll out three eagerly awaited models after seeing some of their popular mid-size models launched earlier this year.

The new SUVs are expected to introduce attractive new designs, new technology and new features to one of the most competitive market segments in the country.

The changing preference of customers towards more functional and feature-packed SUVs is forcing automakers to make considerable efforts to build up their SUV lines. The entry of the Tata Sierra EV, Nissan Tekton, and the refreshed Honda Elevate will help to enhance competition in the mid-size SUV segment and offer buyers additional choice.

Tata Sierra EV Set to Make a Strong Comeback

3 New Mid-Size SUVs

Tata Motors officially has confirmed the unveiling of the Sierra EV on June 30 and it will be launched in the market around July. The iconic Sierra nameplate is returning in an all-electric avatar, blending a sense of the past with the latest technology and design.

It is believed that Tata Sierra EV will be available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. The front styling will get a more sophisticated and futuristic look, but the car will have a model that is still pretty similar to the concept Sierra. The electric SUV will also benefit from the independent rear suspension setup, which should deliver better ride quality.

Advanced EV Technology: Premium Cabin

The Sierra EV is likely to be familiar to owners, featuring minor changes in the interior from the standard EV. The focus will probably be on premium materials, advanced connectivity options and a sleek experience for the user, as Tata Motors is likely to emphasize these aspects.

The Sierra EV, being one of Tata’s flagship electric products, may appeal to those seeking both functionality and tech, along with a sense of adventure. Its all-wheel drive option could make it even more appealing for the long-distance touring and outdoor crowd.

Nissan Tekton to Replace the Terrano

Also, Nissan is readying its all-new Takara for the upcoming lineup of SUVs. The Tekton is expected to be in the market around July and will take over from the now-discontinued Nissan Terrano and will be a key part of Nissan’s development strategy for the Indian market.

The new Renault Duster will share the same platform, powtrrains and technology architecture as the new SUV. Though the vehicle’s mechanics remain the same, Nissan is anticipated to inject the Tekton with its own distinct personality with the addition of design elements it has adapted from its bigger international SUV cousins, like the Nissan Patrol.

Sharper Design and Future Hybrid Option

The Nissan Tekton will probably have an even more sophisticated and upscale exterior design than its Renault cousin. The front fascia will feature a bold appearance, but retain the design DNA Nissan has implemented worldwide.

The interior is likely to be very similar to the Duster, but the cabin is packed with modern conveniences. Additionally, it is reported that Nissan may also launch a hybrid version of the Tekton as early as 2027, further enhancing its fuel economy and emission efficiency.

Honda Elevate Facelift is coming later this year

Honda is working on an upgraded version of the Elevate that may be available in August/September. The facelifted model is designed to maintain the Elevate’s competitiveness in a market with stiff competition and changing customer expectations.

The re-designed bumpers, new headlamps, revamped tail lights and redesigned alloy wheels are expected to be standard features on the refreshed SUV. The transformations will bring the vehicle a more modern and attractive look without changing its essence.

More Features and Improved Comfort

The interior layout is likely to stay similar, but Honda will be adding a number of premium cabin features for comfort and convenience. Electrically adjustable front seats, seat ventilation, panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera system might be included with the list of features.

The tried and tested naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine is likely to remain as is. It will likely be available with a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission.

Mid-Size SUV Segment Becoming More Competitive

The mid-size SUV segment is one of the most crucial in the Indian automotive market. Modern customers demand their cars to be stylish, offer cutting-edge safety, be technologically advanced, and have several power options all in one.

With the introduction of the three new SUVs, the segment will become even more robust, and will offer choices for electric, petrol and future hybrid technologies. This growing competition is also likely to push manufacturers to provide an even better value and features.

3 New Mid-Size SUVs

The second half of 2026 promises to be a thrilling time for SUV enthusiasts in India. The Tata Sierra EV is all about electric innovation and nostalgia, while the Nissan Tekton adds a new player to the mix, and the Honda Elevate facelift offers some welcome improvements and comfort.

The three models are likely to generate a lot of interest and drive continuing expansion of the mid-size SUV segment. If buyers are looking to buy a new SUV in the next few months, it may be worth their while to wait for these new launches.
