New Norton Atlas GT: For those with a penchant for adventure, performance, and motorcycle technology, there’s a special something to be excited about. The British motorcycle maker Norton Motors has officially unveiled the all-new Atlas and Atlas GT, which enter the fiercely competitive middleweight adventure and sport-touring motorcycle market.
Both motorcycles are built on a high-tech chassis and built by Norton in their Solihull, United Kingdom headquarters, with a new generation parallel-twin engine, top-quality electronics, and advanced suspension.
The Atlas is made for riders who wish to experience adventure touring as well as a blend of terrain, whereas the Atlas GT is targeted towards offering a more refined road touring experience.

Bold Design Tailored for Different Riding Styles
The new Atlas and Atlas GT share the same base chassis, but are targeted for specific applications. The standard Atlas is designed to be more rugged, adventurous, and features a more generous front wheel and suspension configuration to address a range of road conditions.
The Atlas GT is more road-oriented, featuring a lower seat height and sportier wheels. The configuration is designed to provide more crisp control and better comfort on the road.
New 585cc Parallel-Twin Engine Delivers Strong Performance
The centerpiece of both bikes is a new liquid-cooled direct ignition, high-output parallel-twin powerplant. The engine’s 270-degree crankshaft setup has been designed to ensure a balance of smoothness, character and delivery of power.
The powerplant produces 69 bhp at 9,300 rpm and 57.5 Nm of torque at 7,300 rpm. This is a very solid output which firmly puts motorcycles in the middleweight range, where they are not so difficult to handle in daily use but will still allow plenty of zip.
Advanced Engineering contributes to efficiency
The engine is fitted with a number of modern technologies that enhance its efficiency and reliability. Their smoother running and improved responsiveness are aided by features like the cylinder surfaces that have been treated with atmospheric plasma spray, ride-by-wire throttle control and multi-point fuel injection.
The company states that it has a claimed figure of about 23 kmpl. In addition, service intervals have been increased to 10,000 km, which lowers the maintenance frequency and ownership costs.
Smooth Transmission and Rider-Friendly Features
The power is delivered by a six-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quickshifter. This helps to ensure a smooth and seamless gear change, which is beneficial for both comfort and performance, especially when riding fast.
A slipper clutch in conjunction with an assist clutch, further enhances the riding experience by minimizing clutch effort and eliminating rear-wheel instability on strong downshifts. All of this makes for a sophisticated and pleasurable driving experience.
Premium chassis for stability
The new motorcycles are designed around the steel trellis frame, with the engine being a stressed member. This design enhances the rigidity of the structure, without compromising handling balance.
The rear suspension is supported by a cast aluminium swingarm and the weight is still competitive. The Atlas without fuel is 188 kg and the Atlas GT is a bit heavier at 192 kg.
Fully adjustable KYB Suspension System
High quality KYB components are used on both motorcycles to provide suspension. The adventure inclined Atlas comes with upside down forks with 43 mm of travel, and a rear monoshock with 180 mm of wheel travel.
The Atlas GT is a more road-focused model with 140 mm of rear and front suspension travel. There are compression, rebound and preload adjustments to fine-tune the suspension to a rider’s preference and conditions.
Advanced Safety Technologies Raise the Bar
The Atlas range has been packed with comprehensive electronic rider aids for Norton. Advanced systems like lean-sensitive ABS, cornering traction control, wheelie control, rear slide control, and cornering cruise control are possible with a Bosch six-axis IMU.
These technologies complement each other to enhance rider confidence and safety in a number of riding conditions. The ‘Apex’ variants on the base model include electronic combined braking and vehicle hold control for even greater convenience.
Large TFT Display and Smart Connectivity Features
The Atlas and Atlas GT stand out for its technology features. Both bikes come equipped with an impressive 8-inch full-colour touchscreen TFT display with a high-resolution interface that provides easy access to all the essential information.
It features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, ride telemetry, GoPro integration, over-the-air software updates and can be paired with the Norton Rider mobile app. These attributes would make a seamless riding experience which is what today’s riders expect.
There are several ways of riding for each trip
Norton features five riding modes, to cater for a variety of riding conditions. Depending on the roads and personal preferences, there are 5 different modes for the rider: Urban, Rain, Sport, Tour, Enduro.
Other features on offer are keyless ignition, USB-C charging, multimedia controls and integrated navigation support. These are all added features that make touring further distances more enjoyable and comfortable.
Premium Lighting & Touring Equipment
The Atlas range is complemented by full LED headlamps with twin projectors, built-in handguard lamps, daylight running lamps and multifunction rear lights. These components will not only make the motorcycles more visible but also help make them look like top-of-the-line bikes.
The Apex variants go one step further with the inclusion of cornering lamps, puddle lights, heated grips, tyre pressure monitoring, an adjustable windscreen and luggage mounting provisions. The motorcycles are even more popular with tourers thanks to these features.
Warranty and Ownership Benefits
Norton is providing the Atlas and Atlas GT with an all-copper 36-month warranty package. The coverage is an indicator of the company’s belief in the durability and reliability of the new platform.
There is also roadside assistance support available, offering extra peace of mind for riders undertaking long-distance trips and cross-country journeys.
