Honda Plans New SUVs: The Indian auto industry is evolving fast, and buyers are moving towards SUVs and electric cars. To capitalize on this shift, Honda Cars India is developing a bold product roadmap that will include an all-new SUV lineup, a hybrid powertrain, and a locally-built electric vehicle.
The company’s long-term target is to consolidate its market share in some of the most competitive parts of the market in the coming years.
It appears Honda is looking toward growth and innovation in the future. In its plans, the brand seems set to expand its reach and appeal to a broader audience of buyers with a locally made electric SUV, possibly a sub-4-meter SUV, and even a larger SUV above the Elevate.

Honda plans to beef up its SUV lineup

Honda has established a handsome reputation for its cars in India with the Honda City and Honda Amaze over the years. As SUVs became more popular, however, new challenges emerged as several competitors quickly added more SUVs to their lineup in various price points.
The BR-V, WR-V, and Mobilio were once Honda’s SUVs but didn’t make a dent in the competitive SUV market. Consequently, Honda has turned its attention to its SUV business to bolster the presence more in line with customer demand.
Honda ZR-V Hybrid Will Lead the New Product Offensive
With the launch of the ZR-V Hybrid in India, Honda has already kicked off its next series of growth with the sporty vehicle. Bookings for the SUV are currently open, with deliveries set to start in July 2026.
The ZR-V Hybrid is poised to be Honda’s high-end product in the Indian market. The SUV will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and will appeal to those seeking higher levels of technology and features than the Elevate, but less volume than a mass-market one.
Powerful Hybrid Technology Enhances the ZR-V
The Honda ZR-V Hybrid’s advanced powertrain is one of its major features. With a hybrid petrol engine that outputs 200+ horsepower, the SUV combines excellent performance with fuel efficiency.
Hybrid is becoming a popular choice for buyers who don’t want to go all the way to EVs, wanting to reduce their fuel consumption while retaining the freedom to use the fuel they prefer. Honda’s ZR-V is designed to provide a high-tech and advanced driving experience to demonstrate the company’s capabilities in electrified mobility.
Locally Developed Electric SUV Under Development
One of the biggest elements of Honda’s future plans is the creation of an electric S-Vehicle that can be built in the country. The new EV is said to be on the Elevate platform and is in testing.
The electric SUV will be available from around FY27 and may be one of Honda’s game-changers in India. The model could also be available for export markets as Honda seeks to increase its global EV market share, apart from the domestic market.
Honda May Introduce More SUVs Across Segments
Along with the coming electric SUV, Honda is also rumored to be considering opportunities in other SUV segments. According to the industry reports, the company may have plans in the future to produce a sub-4m SUV and an even bigger SUV above the Elevate.
The move into several SUV markets would enable Honda to be more competitive with other automakers that already have established brands in compact, midsize and high-end SUVs. This approach may have a huge impact on the brand’s market presence in the next few years.
Manufacturing Capacity Ready for Future Growth
The Honda factory in Rajasthan is an important asset for the company’s future expansion plans. The production capacity is currently around 1.8 lakh vehicles per year with the current utilization rate much lower.
The plant also has scope for future expansion, allowing for a production capacity of approximately 2,20,000 units in case of a surge in demand. This will allow Honda to sustain future product releases without having to make a massive investment in infrastructure infrastructure upfront.
Honda’s Future Focus Reflects Market Trends
The company’s new strategy is a clear indication of Indian consumer trends. SUVs are among the most popular models in terms of practicality, road presence and versatility, and EVs and hybrid cars are gaining traction.

Honda’s new SUVs, advanced hybrid technology and domestically-built electric cars seem to signal a renewed push to get back on the pace and assert its presence in a key global automotive market.
