JSW MG Motor India Firms Up Positioning
JSW MG Motor India has firmly established itself as the second-best-selling brand for electric vehicles in India. The sales figure amounted to 53,089 vehicles, registering a tremendous growth of 73 percent from last year.

This shows the great emphasis that MG Motor is putting on making its EV range more diverse and accessible. It attracts customers with its innovative and pragmatic designs that offer both aesthetic appeal and environmental efficiency.
Explosive Growth for Mahindra & Mahindra
Mahindra & Mahindra has turned out to be a major success story in FY2026. The company reported an impressive growth rate of 400% on the back of a sharp increase in sales from 8,426 units to 42,721 units.
Such an impressive growth rate undoubtedly reflects the acceptance of its newly launched electric lineup by the customers. The brand has managed to reinvent itself with its bold designs and latest technologies.
Hyundai Registers Impressive Growth through Slow and Steady Expansion
Hyundai Motor India also reported a strong performance during the year under review. Its sales grew by 137% to reach 5,885 units. Such growth certainly indicates that the brand is slowly but steadily expanding its footprint in the EV market.
Thanks to its latest EV offerings, Hyundai has managed to capture the attention of consumers who trust the brand for offering reliable and comfortable vehicles.
Continued Growth of BYD in Premium Segment
The performance of BYD India was quite consistent, as it recorded an impressive growth rate by selling 5,361 units. Hence, the total sales of BYD grew by more than 54 percent. The brand is gradually becoming a part of the premium EV segment.
In this case, the emphasis of BYD on battery technology and premium models attracted some customers who were seeking something unique. Customers who want some difference from the existing brands are interested in purchasing BYD cars.
Kia Makes the Best Performance Among Other Top Car Makers
Among the top car makers, the best performance was shown by Kia India. For example, the EV sales of Kia rose from only 418 units to 3,738 units, which indicates that there was more than 790 percent growth in the number of sold models.
Therefore, this rapid change demonstrates the fast response of the company to the changes in the industry. By launching new models in the market, Kia succeeded in achieving excellent results.
VinFast and Maruti Suzuki Enter the Market
The year FY2026 was marked by some new entrants into the electric vehicle space. The number of electric vehicles sold by VinFast Auto India stood at 2,390 units, signaling the entry of the company into the Indian market.
India’s biggest car maker, Maruti Suzuki also made its debut with 1,416 units of EV sales. The numbers may be modest but the entry of these big companies marks a paradigm shift in the industry.
Mercedes-Benz and Volvo Register Slight Dip in Sales
But not everyone was able to register a growth during FY2026. There were several brands that registered a slight dip in sales. Mercedes-Benz India witnessed a slight decline and its total sales came to 1,047 units. Volvo Auto India also reported a slight decline in its sales figures. Its total sale for FY2026 came to 382 units only.
One of the biggest declines was registered by Stellantis India, which sold only 576 units of EV during FY2026. This represents a major decrease from the 2,000 units of last year.
Tesla Embarks on Its Adventure in India

Tesla India Motors was not left behind and had its fair share by achieving 342 units. Though the sales figures are still small, the brand’s introduction into the market has raised interest among consumers. The growth of Tesla within the Indian market is expected to significantly impact the electric mobility industry in India.
